A public hearing on the Environmental Protection Authority’s (EPA) proposed updates to the Cosmetic Products Group Standard, which contains rules for cosmetics in Aotearoa New Zealand, will be held on Wednesday 20 September 2023.
The EPA is proposing several updates to the rules for cosmetic products to further protect consumers.
The main proposed updates are to:
- align New Zealand’s rules for ingredients with the European Union - seen as a global high standard
- ban all perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) - known as forever chemicals - as ingredients by the end of 2025
- extend the group standard to cover more cosmetic products.
- read all proposed updates to the Cosmetic Products Group Standard.
