Ian Leighton, (right), is a Christchurch locum pharmacist with a self-confessed whitebaiting obsession. For those unfamiliar with the concept, whitebait refers to tiny immature fish, and fishing for them (whitebaiting) as they migrate up-river is a popular pastime across New Zealand during the season. Mr Leighton's whitebait stand is on the Jackson River on the west coast of the South Island, about five minutes from Bruce Bay, and far from any cell phone reception
