Why is Tāmaki Health sponsoring the primary healthcare awards?

The Primary Healthcare Awards celebrate collaboration and innovation within our sector, values that are deeply aligned with Tāmaki Health’s. We are passionate about teamwork, celebrating excellence and empowering people. These principles are at the heart of our organisation, so when the opportunity to sponsor the Primary Healthcare Awards arose, we were all in.

What is Tāmaki Health’s key area of involvement in primary care?

Tāmaki Health is the parent company of more than 50 general practice and urgent care clinics, primarily operating under the Local Doctors, White Cross and Bettr Online Doctors brands. Our clinics are spread from Whangārei to Christchurch, providing care to over 4,500 patients daily, including many in our most vulnerable communities.

What is it that interests you personally about the category Tāmaki Health is sponsoring?

We are a learning organisation with a strategic focus on helping our people to realise their potential through education and by fostering a growth mindset. An award that recognises and celebrates advancements in research and education - especially one that positively impacts primary care and improves patient health outcomes - aligns perfectly with our values. Whether through scientific breakthroughs, enhanced service delivery and patient care, or promoting better health knowledge and behaviours, this award embodies the kind of progress we strive to make.

What do you hope this sponsorship will achieve for the entrants in this category?

Our hope is that all entrants receive the recognition they truly deserve for their selflessness, dedication, and advancements, and that the recognition extends beyond primary care to wider Aotearoa, perhaps even the globally.

What is a great experience you have had in primary care that you can share with us?

Our teams create countless great experiences every day. One that stands out is feedback from a patient who is a ‘3rd generation patient’ of one of our clinics and has decided to get into healthcare because of their family’s positive association with our organisation.

There have been some tough times for primary care in recent times. How would you describe the sector in three words?

As the ‘ever-present foundation of health’ in Aotearoa.

If you were asked to name a popular song as the anthem for primary care, what would you chose?

Through a couple of different lenses I’d say "Lean on Me" (Bill Withers) and “Keep the Faith’ (Bon Jovi).
